Issue

  1. Add Documents and Media widget on a page
  2. Open the widget's configuration and activate "Show Actions"
  3. Click on "+" and upload a file (alternatively, edit a file)

Result: The view will not open within the DLPortlet but you are redirected to the DLAdminPortlet (URL is /control_panel/manage).

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.3+

Resolution

  • This behavior was introduced in DXP 7.3. The reasoning behind the new functionality is that the Edit (Upload) actions are part of the Administration, and the DLAdminPortlet is designed for this. This is the reason why the actions are not visible by default in the DLPortlet and you have to change its configuration to show them.
  • From a design perspective, the Product Team opted for a full-page experience for editors, which is more comfortable instead of loading the edit view in a small column of the layout, which is not guaranteed to be user friendly, and the opposite could potentially happen if the edit view is loaded "in context".

Additional Information

  • A Feature Request ticket was raised to consider making the behavior configurable (you could choose which way you want to open the Edit view). Please refer to LPS-150880 for more information.
