Issue
- I am running Liferay through Docker and I would like to enable the OpenOffice integration as described at https://learn.liferay.com/w/dxp/content-authoring-and-management/documents-and-media/devops/enabling-openoffice-libreoffice-integration, but I'm not sure how this can be applied for a Docker environment. For example, it states that it is recommended that OpenOffice runs on the same machine as the Liferay server. How does this apply in the case of Docker? Does that mean that I cannot run OpenOffice in a separate container?

Resolution
- Although in a strict sense it is not supported (indeed, due to that same-machine warning), according to our experience, when running DXP through a Docker image, it is possible to realize the OpenOffice/LibreOffice integration by running OpenOffice/LibreOffice in a separate container
- For example, you can find this readily available image on the internet: https://github.com/hannesdejager/docker-libreoffice-api, which you can use to run a LibreOffice in a separate container. After configurind Liferay to point to this container (As descibed in the documentation above), preview generation for MS Office files should be working quite well.
Please find also attached a whole Docker environment that realises this setup, with the docker compose file, you just need to run "docker compose up".
You can also build your own LibreOffice (or OpenOffice) image, please find below and example of a Dockerfile that achieves that.
