Why are user accounts shared when I have multiple LDAP servers configured?

Issue
- When a Liferay DXP bundle is configured to communicate with two or more LDAP servers there can be issues with user importing and users logging in.
- Example: If Liferay DXP is communicating with two LDAP servers, and each of those servers has a user with a screenname of jsmith, then only one of those user profiles will be imported if Liferay DXP authenticates users by their screennames.
Environment
- Liferay DXP 7.0+ connected to two or more LDAP servers
Resolution
- When LDAP servers are configured in Liferay DXP an authentication variable has to be chosen (How do users authenticate?). Liferay DXP uses this variable as the unique identifier for each user. As such if two users share the same authentication variable on two separate LDAP servers then when those users are imported errors may occur.
- Thus: Users should not share the same value for the authentication variable.
