Unable to create directory error

Issue

  • The following error appears in the console:
    ERROR [Start Level: Equinox Container: 10106855-d66b-001d-184e-d6958ecd00e8][comliferayportalstorefilesystem:97] [com.liferay.portal.store.file.system.FileSystemStore(1871)] The activate method has thrown an exception com.liferay.portal.kernel.exception.SystemException: java.io.IOException: Unable to create directory /portaldata/corp/documentlibrary

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.2
  • Liferay DXP 7.3
  • Liferay DXP 7.4

Resolution

  • This error means that the user or service running Liferay/app server does not have write permissions to the directory /portaldata/corp/documentlibrary, hence why Liferay is unable to create it.
  • Users must ensure that the user or service has complete read and write access to the directory that Liferay is configured to modify.
