Issue
- What is the correct sequence to start up all servers during a restart?
Environment
Resolution
- Sometimes it is necessary to restart some if not all of the servers that Liferay DXP runs on or is dependent on. Reasons include rolling restarts for patching or maintenance.
- As a rule, start the servers that Liferay DXP and legacy portal depend on first. Those that are not necessary to run Liferay DXP are second.
The correct order:
- Database servers.
- Search server - Elasticsearch or SOLR. This could also be clustered.
- Any CDN or repositories
- Application servers - at least one; this becomes the master node in a cluster environment. Start up others as needed later.
After these have been started successfully, start up secondary ones like web servers.
