Issue

  • The StripFilter in Liferay DXP removes blank lines from Javascript, CSS, and other files.
  • While this can result in slightly faster load times for dial-up users, it can also result in a big performance hit for Liferay depending on the amount and type of content being cached

Environment

  • Liferay Portal 6.2
  • Liferay DXP 7.0+

Resolution

  • If heap dumps or thread dumps taken from a slow environment indicate that the StripFilter is taking up a lot of resources, it can be disabled with the following portal property:
    com.liferay.portal.servlet.filters.strip.StripFilter=false
