Issue

  • When searching for a file such a Web Content.jpg, searching for partial matches (such as We Content or Web Conte) or the file name without the extension doesn't yield the file in the search results

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.4

Resolution

  • In the hypothetical scenario described, the file has the following information in its fields:
    • Title: Web Content.jpg
    • File Name: Web Content.jpg
  • When searching without quotation marks (e.g. Web Content) and by the File Name without the extension, the search searches both words individually and displays any documents that contains either of those words within its metadata fields (e.g. Title, File Name, Description, etc.)
  • When you add the quotation marks to the search, the way the search is structured is that only exact full matches of what is found within the quotation marks will be displayed. This is why a search for "Web Content" (with quotation marks) does not bring up the Web Content.jpg file, as the search text within the quote does not fully match the entire field for the Title.
  • To get around this, you can add a wildcard (*) to the end of the search term, which will find all matches were the search term partially matches the result. For example, searching "Web Content*" yields the file in question
