Issue
- While using the export-import features of Liferay, we often encounter the error that certain files cannot be imported because references are missing.
- Even after importing the allegedly missing reference, the error still appears. The different elements from different pages reference each other and thus form a "circular dependency" which prevents the import.
- What can we do to prevent these errors?
Resolution
- The errors appear in order to show the circular dependencies so this behavior is expected.
- Please try to remove the circular dependencies by creating items in the Global scope (the Global site) in Liferay.
- There are some limitations when the Global scope cannot be used. In those cases, please perform the following steps:
- Go to Instance Settings or System Settings > Infrastructure > VIRTUAL INSTANCE SCOPE > Export/Import

- Uncheck the following options:
- Validate file entries
- Validation of journal feed references
- Validate layout references
- Validate missing references
- Import the LAR file again
- Check the unchecked options again
