Cannot start up server after applying a new patch

Issue

After installing a new fix pack / hotfix, the portal is not starting up, even though the temporary folders have been deleted.
06-Dec-2021 13:15:32.439 SEVERE [main] org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext.listenerStart Exception sending context initialized event to listener instance of class [com.liferay.portal.spring.context.PortalContextLoaderListener]
 java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.NullPointerException

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.0+

Resolution

For some reason there are duplicated jar files in the lpkg files that you can find in the marketplace folder. Please download a new vanilla bundle, install the desired fix pack / hotfix and replace osgi/marketplace folder in the corrupted bundle with the osgi/marketplace folder of the new instance.

Please make a backup first, in case a rollback will be needed - to avoid further issues.
