Authenticated users with no permission to access Control Panel can navigate to /control_panel/manage with the message: Please select a tool from the left menu.

Issue

• I have an issue with authenticated users who do not have privilege to access the Control Panel. A user with no specific role (Only User role), when navigating to /control_panel/manage gets redirected to a page with the message: Please select a tool from the left menu.

Reproduction Steps:

1. Log in as admin.

2. Go to Control Panel --> Users --> Users and create a User without assigning a role to them (they will be automatically assigned the User role).

3. Log in as the new User or impersonate them and navigate to

   a. /group/control_panel/manage

   b. /group/guest/~/control_panel/manage

   c. /group/global/~/control_panel/manage

Result: The User is redirected to a page with the UI message: Please select a tool from the left menu.

 

Environment

• Liferay DXP 7.2+

Resolution

• The behavior is expected. The case does not cause any Security Concerns.
