Upgrading Liferay
Liferay is continuously being enhanced with new features as new versions are released. To access these features in your current project, you must upgrade your Liferay instance to a newer version. Upgrading is recommended in most cases as new Liferay versions have better performance, more tools and utility, and patch security vulnerabilities.
To upgrade your Liferay installation,
-
Prepare for the upgrade. Review your options and plan accordingly so you can set everything up for a safe and swift upgrade. See Preparing for an Upgrade for more information.
-
Update all your plugins (Marketplace apps, OSGi modules, themes, etc) to ensure they function properly in the new Liferay version. Also migrate all your configurations (portal properties, system properties, activation keys) to ensure the Liferay installation continues to function as expected. See Updating Customizations for more information on updating plugins and configurations.
-
Upgrade the database. New Liferay releases often change the underlying database schemas, so this is the most important step in the upgrade process. See Upgrading the Database for more information on how to execute this upgrade.
-
Clean everything up. Once your upgraded Liferay installation is up and running, finish setting it up and cleaning any obsolete data left over. See Post-Upgrade Considerations for more information.
-
Enjoy your new and improved Liferay!
Now you can continue to build your solutions and meet the needs of your users with new features and improved security.
