Standard Permissions
Liferay defines several standard permissions across various applications and resources, such as view, edit, update, and more.
Managing permissions
Permissions are best managed through roles. In a role, you can collect sets of permissions users need and then assign them the role:

Applications Permissions
Most applications have a standard set of permissions:
| Application standard permissions: | Definition |
|---|---|
| Access in Control Panel | Permission to access applications in the Global Menu ( |
| Configuration | Permission to view and edit applications. |
| Permissions | Permission to view and modify application permissions. |
| Preferences | Permission to view and set application preferences. |
| View | Permission to view applications. |
Resources Permissions
Resources are any objects inside applications, and they also have a set of standard permissions:
| Resources standard permissions: | Definition: |
|---|---|
| Delete | Allows users to delete resources. |
| Permissions | Allows users to view and modify resources’ permissions. |
| Update | Allows users to modify resource. |
| View | Allows users to view resource. |
Usually, you see more permissions than appear here, resources can provide permissions configurations for purposes specific to that resource. For example, a page may have only View and Delete permissions, while a Message Board message has Subscribe or Move Thread permissions.
