Issue

  • I am trying to configure a search Suggestion widget, and I would like to understand how the different configuration options function.

Suggestions_Widget_-_Configuration.png

Environment

  • DXP 7.0
  • DXP 7.1
  • DXP 7.2
  • DXP 7.3

Resolution

  • There are three related functions for Search Suggestions:
    1) “Did you mean...” a.k.a. Spellcheck suggestions
    2) “Related queries...”
    3) “Add New Related Queries Based on Successful Queries” a.k.a. keyword indexing a.k.a query indexing

  • 1) “Did you mean...” a.k.a. Spellcheck suggestions: can be configured to use a dictionary file which will be imported into index. The terms are indexed into spellCheck_xx_YY field. This uses the Term suggester for retrieval, which is for retrieving single word suggestions (good for spellchecking).

  • 2) “Related queries...” uses indexed, successful queries as data source and can be configured to use a dictionary file which will actually be imported into index. The terms are indexed into keywordSearch_xx_YY field. This uses Phrase suggester for retrieval, which is for retrieving phrases (good for related queries).

  • 3) Adding related queries based on successful queries allows the indexing of successful queries which can be used by the 2) "Related Queries..." functionality. This indexes only what is searched for successfully, it does not index based on words present in content directly.
