Scoping Your Wikis

Note

The Scope configuration is deprecated as of Liferay DXP 2024.Q4/Portal GA129 and is scheduled for removal in a future release.

Besides using Wiki Nodes to organize your content, you can scope a wiki to the Global, Site, or Page Scopes.

Global

Wiki pages created at the global site scope level are available on all other sites. However, content is not published automatically. Administrators must configure the Wiki widget’s scope to Global.

Creating Globally Scoped Wiki Pages

  1. Navigate to the site page where the Wiki widget is deployed.

  2. Mouse over the Wiki widget’s name and click Options Icon OptionsConfiguration.

Use the Configuration option to change the wiki page's scope.

  3. Click Scope.

  4. Select Global from the Scope drop-down menu.

  5. Click Save and close the window.

The Wiki widget has been configured to display content for the Global scope.

Now, the Wiki widget displays content for the Global scope.

Managing Globally Scoped Wiki Pages

  1. Open the Site Menu (Site Menu) and click the compass icon (Compass) on the Site Administration menu. This opens the Select Site dialog.

  2. Select My SitesGlobal.

Select the Global site under My Sites.

  3. Click Content & DataWiki.

Any changes made here apply to the global scope.

Site

By default, the Wiki app is scoped to the selected site. Wikis created in one site are not visible when viewing wikis from another site within the same instance.

Page

Creating page-scoped message boards enables forum members to view different wikis on separate pages within the same site.

Creating a Page Scoped Wiki

  1. Go to the page where you want to create a scoped wiki (Second Wiki).

  2. Mouse over the Wiki widget’s name and click Options Icon OptionsConfiguration.

  3. Click Scope.

  4. Select the page’s name or [YOUR-PAGE] (Create New) if the page scope doesn’t exist yet.

Select the page's name to use an existing scope or create a new scope for the page.

  5. Click Save then close the dialog window.

The second page has been configured for page scope.

Managing Page Scoped Wikis

Note that administrators must still use the Site Administration menu to administer a page scoped Wiki widget by setting the Site Administration menu’s active scope.

  1. Open the Site Menu (Site Menu), expand the menu for your Site, and click Content & Data.

  2. The current scope appears under the Content & Data heading. By default, it’s set to the current site. To change this, click the gear icon (Gear) and select a different scope. This updates the Site Administration menu to reflect your selection. To work within a specific page’s scope, select the page from the gear icon. The Site Administration menu then displays the page’s name as its title.

  3. Click Wiki.

Any changes you make here apply to the scope that you selected in the previous step.
