Issue

  • How to configure NTLMv2 in Liferay as there is no configuration available in Liferay control panel to differentiate the request/service

Environment

  • Liferay 6.x
  • Liferay 7.0 and Liferay 7.1

Resolution

  • Liferay has provided the option 'NTLM' (under Control Panel -> Configuration -> Instance Settings, click on Authentication) to configure and use of NTLM Single sign-on(independent of NTLM versions whether it is NTLMv1 or v2) over Liferay portal.

Additional Information

  • From the Windows server changing the following option might help to configure NTLMv2
  • Change the LAN Manager authentication level to "NTLMv2 response only" from the Control Panel through Administrative Tools by following the steps below
    a) From the Start menu, select Control Panel then
    b) Double-clicked on Administrative Tools ->  Local Security Policy.
    c) Navigate to Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options and change the following option into "NTLMv2 response only
Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level to NTLMv2 response only
  • Note: The above configurations related to NTLM are given just for reference. Since it's a third-party tool, the vendor who developed the product would be the appropriate point of contact in case further assistance is required on NTLM side.
  • Please refer the documents for Liferay 6.0, Liferay 6.1, Liferay 6.2, Liferay 7.0, Liferay 7.1
