Issue

  • Is it possible to have Open Office on any other server then the one where Liferay is running?

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.2

Resolution

  • It is a limitation of the OpenOffice/LibreOffice integration that it only works properly if it runs on the same server, as mentioned in the documentation:
    https://help.liferay.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018156291-Server-Administration-#openofficelibreoffice-configuration
  • The limitation is on the OpenOffice/LibreOffice end as it is not recommended to run JODConverter on a remote server, and this converter is used by both LibreOffice and OpenOffice in order to perform the document conversions. Because of that, we got reports of document conversion issues that occur when working with Wiki or Documents and Media components and when OpenOffice is running on a remote server.
  • In conclusion, it is not commended to use OpenOffice on a different server where Liferay is running.
