Issue

  • Why is it not possible to localize the title and description for documents?

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.0
  • Liferay DXP 7.1
  • Liferay DXP 7.2

Resolution

  • This is a limitation of the product. i.e. The title and description belonging to any document cannot be localized. A feature request can be created for the engineers to consider introducing this feature in future versions.
  • However, as a workaround, custom-defined document types (and/or metadata sets) can be used as defined in the below document.
Adding Files to a Document Library
  • Any additional items in the Add menu are document types described by a unique metadata set. When you add a document belonging to a document type, a form appears that lets you pick the file to upload and enter the data defined by the document type’s metadata set.The fields of document types and metadata sets are localizable. When uploading a new file for a certain document, the built-in Title and Description fields will still appear and will not be localizable, but the fields defined in the document type, which are localizable.
