Unable to add product with same friendly url in different channels

Issue

  • Trying to use duplicate products across multiple channels while using the same friendly URL. The current functionality is that if the user duplicates it, it will add 1,2,.... 5, etc. to the URL.

    Steps to see the same:

    1. Create a catalog or channel

    2. Add a product.

    3. Duplicate the product by changing its catalog

    4. Try to give the same friendly URL, it will append "-1" after it.

    Expected Behavior: Users want to utilize duplicate products on different channels with the same friendly URL for SEO?

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.4
  • Commerce 4.0

Resolution

  • The observed behavior is expected behavior with friendly URLs of the product.
  • However, if users want to use the same product on multiple channels, then the correct way to do this is not by duplicating the products but by creating only a single product (with the desired friendly URL) and changing its Visibility to the specific channels they want it to appear on.
  • They can find the Visibility tab when editing a product in the Applications Menu → Commerce → Products → Click on a product, → Visibility → Activate Channel Filter.
