Issue
- When comparing the Events and Individuals report, how can we determine the specific user that is associated with an event?
- The “userId” data from the Events export never matches up with the “demographics.uuid” or “id” from the Individual export.
Resolution
- The Event’s
userId
field would more accurately be considered a device ID. This value will change whenever the session changes so it can’t be used to determine the user who is associated to the event.
- Instead, the Event’s
emailAddressHashed
field should be used to determine which user is associated to the event. This value should match the id
value inside of the Individuals report.
- Some Events won’t have an
emailAddressHashed
field value. This means that the Event was anonymous, and hence cannot be associated to a specific user.
