Issue

  • While page editing, only four viewports are visible:
    • Desktop (Desktop)
    • Tablet (Tablet) (Portrait)
    • Landscape phone (Landscape Phone)
    • Portrait Phone (Portrait Phone)
  • But, the "Tablet Landscape" viewport is missing/not available.

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.4 U90 and above versions

Resolution

  • As per Liferay's official documentation, only four screen sizes are available by default.
    • Desktop (Desktop)
    • Tablet (Tablet) (Portrait)
    • Landscape phone (Landscape Phone)
    • Portrait Phone (Portrait Phone)
  • The tablet landscape viewport is not considered for device modes in the page edit mode because, according to industry standards, this behavior is similar to a desktop due to its screen size and user experience; hence, adding such a viewport has not been considered relevant for the product.
  • Additionally, Liferay's Building a Responsive Site documentation states:
    • "More than half of all page views in the world come from mobile devices like phones and tablets. Any site should look as good when viewed by a mobile device as it does on a desktop. Liferay DXP can help you provide the best experience possible no matter what device visits your site. Out-of-the-box, Liferay uses responsive layouts".
    • Therefore, if using the default theme, the pages are already adjusted to fit mobile/Tablet devices.

Additional Information

  • If this feature is still required, a Feature Request can be submitted for evaluation by the product team. However, the implementation of new ideas within Liferay products depends entirely on the product team's assessment, as it involves modifying the existing product code. As a result, no ETA can be provided, but voting for the request is possible.
